Preeclampsia screening
Pre-eclampsia affects the mother and the baby. It can affect the mother’s brain, eyes, liver and kidneys. It affects the baby’s growth by reducing the amount of nutrients and oxygen going to the baby. The screening is done by performing a specialist scan to measure the blood flows to the mother’s uterus (uterine artery dopplers), collecting blood tests from the mother for PAPP-A, Placenta growth factor (PLGF), measuring the mother’s blood pressures for mean arterial pressure (MAP). These factors are combined with the mother’s history to give the risk . A risk greater than 1 in 100 is considered high risk. High risk women are put on medication.
Fetal Anomaly
A detailed ultrasound examination performed to assess the baby's development and look for structural abnormalities
Pre-term Birth screening
An assessment performed during pregnancy to identify women who may be at risk of giving birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Fetal Growth Disorders Care/Placenta Disorders
This is a consult that involves ultrasound scan to assess the baby’s growth, blood flows (dopplers), diagnosis of the growth disorder, management and counselling.
Aneuploidy screening
An assessment to check the risk of a baby having certain chromosome conditions caused by an extra or missing chromosome.
Fetal Abnormality Diagnosis
This is a consult that involves a detailed scan of the baby, diagnosis of the abnormality, management and counselling.

FETAL GROWTH
Fetal Growth Restriction Screening (Abnormally small baby)
Smallness at birth is one of the reason for poor birth outcome.

Fetal Growth Disorders Care/Placenta Disorders
This is a consult that involves ultrasound scan to assess the baby’s growth, blood flows (dopplers), diagnosis of the growth disorder, management and counselling.

FETAL HEART MONITORING
Echocardiography
This is a detailed scan that focuses on the baby's heart. It can help detect fetal heart abnormalities before birth, allowing for faster medical or surgical intervention once the baby is born. This improves the chance of survival after delivery for babies with serious heart defects.
Non-stress test
A Non-Stress Test (NST), also known as Cardiotocography (CTG), is a safe and painless test used to monitor your baby’s heart rate, movements, and uterine activity. Sensors are placed on your abdomen to record your baby’s heartbeat and any contractions, usually for about 20–40 minutes. The test looks at how your baby’s heart rate responds to movement and helps assess your baby’s wellbeing, particularly in later pregnancy or when closer monitoring is needed.

PROCEDURES
Amniocentesis
A small sample of amniotic fluid is taken and sent to the laboratory for testing including genetic testing.
Intrauterine transfusion
This a process of blood transfusion, done during pregnancy to treat a baby (fetus) who has severe anemia while still in the womb.
Amniodrainage
This is a procedure used to remove excess amniotic fluid from the uterus. It is a treatment used when there is too much fluid—a condition called polyhydramnios.
Chorionic Villus Sampling
This a prenatal diagnostic test used to check for certain chromosomal or genetic conditions in a pregnancy. A small sample of placental tissue (chorionic villi) is collected, usually between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy, using ultrasound guidance. The sample is then tested in a laboratory to identify specific genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. CVS provides diagnostic information, meaning it can give a more definitive answer than a screening test.
Pericardiocentesis
This is a procedure to drain excess fluid from around a fetus’s heart while the baby is still in the womb.
Thoracocentesis
This is a specialised fetal procedure used during pregnancy to drain excess fluid from around the baby’s lungs (pleural effusion). Using continuous ultrasound guidance, a very fine needle is carefully inserted through the mother’s abdomen into the baby’s chest to remove the fluid, helping the lungs develop and improving the baby’s condition.
